When does this course run: This course runs in either Semester 1 or 2 (ākonga can only choose one).
Year 10 Food & Nutrition: ākonga will learn the nourishing foods they need to grow and thrive and apply this knowledge to their food choices. Food in moderation along with physical exercise is a good balance.

If ākonga are interested in food and exercise it is useful to know what nutrients are in foods and useful for physical activity. Ākonga will identify food and nutrition guidelines and look at the food groups. They are reminded of how much salt, fat, and sugar we need in our daily meals whatever the meal may be (e.g. Takeaways, Vegetarian).
Ākonga continue to develop their cooking skills using demonstrated and learned techniques and processes to create nourishing snacks, meals and some baked products. They will work carefully and safely with food and equipment while following hygienic practices.
The Introductory topic includes nutrition-Food groups, the Food and Nutrition guidelines, nutrients, and serving sizes.

Cakes and Sponges
This course prepares students for Level 1 Food and Nutrition and Level 1 Hospitality.
Chromebook, Activity book; closed shoes at all times. Some ingredients may be required to purchase by home.
