As we enter a new year, it is about time that we review the technological advancements of 2024. Who knows, we might even be able to predict what’s coming in 2025! Without further ado, let’s take a look at the improvements that recent technologies bring!
Samsung Galaxy S Series
At the beginning of the year, Samsung released the Galaxy S24, along with the S24+ and S24 Ultra. Later, in October, the S24 FE was released, which is a model created based on fan favorite features. A big upgrade on the S24 models is the new collection of AI features, such as live translation and photo editing. Additionally, this phone has a slightly bigger screen and a better battery life compared to earlier phones. Any updates brought by future phones are added to the S24 for the next seven years instead of the usual four. Compared to the S23, S22, and S21, there aren’t too many other upgrades, but compared to the S20 and older phones, the S24 brings several other perks, including better camera quality.
So what features can we expect from next year’s S25? Predictions have been made that the S25 screen will be bigger than the S24, along with larger storage and different colors. The battery size will likely remain the same, while a newer chipset could be used. This potential chipset offers faster performance speed and better battery life. Furthermore, an announcement from Samsung talked about newer camera sensors that could increase visuals along with efficiency. While there isn’t much to say for certain, the S25 can be expected to have improved performance, visuals, and AI features.
iPhone Series
We welcomed the iPhone 16 models in late September with small improvements that meant a lot. The iPhone 16 shares more similarities with its other models than previous iPhone lineups; however, this new phone comes with new, brighter colors and an upgraded display design that enhances details. Additionally, the cameras are placed in a vertical arrangement to provide for higher quality photos and videos. There are also new controls that make it easier to use the camera, along with cameras that can easily capture images up close or in the dark. Finally, a newer chipset and bigger battery provide better performance, and new features are also added, such as Visual Intelligence, which quickly identifies details in images.
How will next year’s iPhone 17 be different? A big prediction shows that the iPhone 17 could be the thinnest iPhone model, along with a new model added to the lineup, the iPhone 17 Air. Apple may be using a new chip which allows for much thinner models. The iPhone 17 could also come with one high-quality camera instead of the usual two.
Google Pixel Series
The Google Pixel 9 was introduced in August with AI-based upgrades. Many new AI features include Gemini upgrades, camera features, and editing software. The Pixel 9 comes with Android 14, showing just how AI-based it is, and connects its software, cameras, and AI features together to create high-quality media. The build quality of the Pixel 9 has brought upgrades, such as stability when set down (given there is a camera bump) and a luxurious feel. The Pixel 9 also comes with modern WiFi features and quick cellular performance.
What are some predictions about the Pixel 10? A big leak revealed that the Pixel 10 will come with more AI features and an upgraded chipset for better performance. Many of the predicted updates are media-based, such as AI features to enhance editing with help from the new Tensor G5 chipset. The Pixel 11 in 2026 is predicted to introduce more zoom options, feature upgrades such as Cinematic Blur, and an upgraded chipset, the Tensor G6.
Apple Vision Series
The Apple Vision Pro, an on-the-face headset, was released in early February and introduces Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality features packed into a device with a somewhat normal feel. This headset provides comfort when watching movies alone with high sound and display quality. The Vision Pro also connects seamlessly with other Apple devices and provides for an extra monitor when working and multitasking. There are many apps and features on the Vision Pro, and considering that it is still in its early stages, we can continue to expect great things from the Apple Vision Pro.
Apple Watch Series
In late September, Apple released their Apple Watch 10, or the Apple Watch X. This new watch comes with new health features and a lighter feel. A big perk of the Apple Watch X is its screen. The faster refresh rate allows for a second hand on the always-on display, and the bigger screen provides better brightness when checking the time. Additionally, the lightness of this watch makes using it for health tracking very comfortable. The watch also has optimal voice isolation during calls and can blast your favorite songs as well.
As you can see, 2024 has been a year full of AI-based improvements, and we can expect a lot more in 2025, ranging from AI add-ins to thinner and lighter designs. Over the past few decades, groups of hardworking people have researched and designed tirelessly to bring these modern advancements to devices that we all love. Perhaps the next time you are considering buying a new device, you can do some digging and find the best device to fit your needs!
