What's New in 2025?

Welcome to the fresh year of 2025! Of course, with a new year comes new movies, new car models, new phones, new memes, new trends and so much more. Today, I’ll be talking about some new things coming out this year.

1. iPhone 17

The iPhone 17 will be released sometime this year. It will probably come with brand new features, like a better layout and quality for the camera, better battery life, and a better screen. To increase charging speed, they might even change the charging cord. These new improvements will be a big step up for the iPhone. Just kidding! APPLE DID THIS LAST YEAR! AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT! AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT! AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT! 

Ok seriously, what does Apple even do with their new models? The only change in the last 5 years was the two little buttons on the iPhone 16 that I’ve never seen anyone use. I don’t think the iPhone 17 will have any revolutionary changes, but here’s my hypothesis (note that I’m writing this in December 2024).

The camera will get ever so slightly better and will be rearranged so it’s all vertical. The battery life will increase by 1.7%, and that's about it. Here’s an image to represent my idea.

2. Movies

Many new sequels will be coming out this year, like Austin Powers 4, Rush Hour 4, Avatar 3: Fire and Ash, The Bad Guys 2 and Zootopia 2. With all these new movies and ideas, I’ve got my hopes really high. As you probably know, sequels are of course always, always, always better than the originals. The fresh ideas and new characters always give me a good surprise. Just kidding, SEQUELS ARE TERRIBLE! (My editor told me not to yell so much, so what I mean is, sequels just usually aren't as good as the first movie. Directors and writers just take whatever and throw them into sequels. For example, Cars 2. Cars is a movie about racing, speed and challenge, but Cars 2 is about racing, speed, super-top-secret-high-technology-awesome-action-spy-agents, and challenge. (There are worse things than Cars 2, such as Ralph Breaks the Internet, Shreck the Third, Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate.)

Here’s my hypothesis of what the movie writers’ meetings are like:

Writer 1: “Ok guys, we need to make a new movie.”

Writer 2: “How about a movie about talking animals?”

Writer 3: “No no no no! You know how we made the movie Cars, since that movie was so popular, we make… a sequel!”

Writer 1: “Ooh I really like that, but there’s no room for character development in Lightning McQueen, so what do we do?” 

Writer 3: “Ok ok, how about we make it about what cars should really be doing.”

Writer 2: “Racing?”

Writer 3: “No, becoming super spy agents and trying to stop other cars from being blown up by a super lame villain, duh.”

Writer 1: “Yeah bro, racing? Amateur.”

3. Trends

Over the past years, there have been many creative dumb trends, such as the Tide Pod Challenge, the Kylie Jenner Lip Trend, The Milk Crate Trend and many more. These trends were very dangerous and led to many trips to the ER. In 2025, I hope there will be less ambitious trends, but of course, it is inevitable. My predictions will be something like “The Snake Necklace Trend” and “The Superglue Handshake”. Another one could be “The Rooftop Slip-n-slide Trend” (that one actually sounds kind of fun.) 

2025 will be a fun year with “new” surprises that none of us will ever be able to predict. No matter what happens in 2025 though, I’m still hopeful for 2026.
