A new species of rabbit, scientifically named Multiaures Cuniculus, has been discovered for the first time.
On March 30, 2025, eleven-year-old Clara Goodman was greatly surprised. “I was just walking along the sidewalk when a strange animal darted across the street,” the young girl told Leo reporters. “I went over to where it was sitting under a bush and saw a rabbit. There was something strange about it, but I couldn’t quite pinpoint what. I looked a bit closer and was shocked to see that the rabbit had two sets of ears, one pointing up and one pointing down!”
Scientists were surprised to find that the four-eared rabbit was not a single anomaly, but actually a whole new species, as multiple sightings were reported in other parts of the West Coast. Recent studies have shown that the new rabbit species can be likened to images of rabbits generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). This got people wondering, “What is really going on here?”
Many wonder if this is a harmless new species or something different entirely. Some say this is an evil plot involving a mad scientist creating living creatures with A.I., but others are suspicious of that theory. The idea of “3D printing” a living organism is almost unimaginable, but creative minds believe that someone will (or already has) accomplish this.
“Scientists could use A.I. to create artificial life, but [it] may also be able to create clones or variants of living creatures,” said one researcher from the University of Rabbit Science. Commonly called “The Combination Rabbit” for its two sets of ears, Multiaureus Cuniculus remains much of a mystery, and scientists and wildlife experts are still perplexed about the possibility of the “3D-printed life” theory. While it is still a possibility, most experts are leaning towards the theory that it was a single mutation that passed through many generations. While the mutation theory is unlikely, it’s more likely than the A.I. 3D printing life one!
How Can I Identify a Combination Rabbit Besides its Four Ears?
The average Combination Rabbit weighs a bit more than the normal rabbit (Oryctolagus Cuniculus). It weighs about 4-6 pounds, while the average rabbit weighs 1-5.
The characteristics of the rabbit's face will be a bit smoothed, with a flatter chin and nose.
The fur of an average Combination Rabbit is very layered, with darker underfur. This is typical in most rabbits, but it is more prominent in the Combination type.
