Ever since soccer star Lionel Messi transferred to Inter Miami there has been a major change in how the team has performed. The team has a record of 10-1-0 since Messi joined in July. Tragically, they won’t proceed to the playoffs as they lost too many games before Messi’s arrival. Hopefully, next year Inter Miami will make it to the playoffs, now that they have Messi.
Messi's significance goes to show because he has 44 trophies from soccer which makes him the soccer player with the most individual trophies. He also has the most best European player of the year awards.
However, Messi managed to lead Inter Miami to victory in the Leagues Cup. The Leagues Cup is a tournament where most teams of North America compete against each other. They barely won with a nail-biting win against Nashville FC on Aug 19. It was 10-9 in penalties. The win gave Inter Miami its first ever trophy.
In 11 games for Inter Miami, Messi has 13 goals, which shows the true impact he had on the rising team. This total puts Messi in 12th place for most MLS goals in the 2023 season despite Messi only playing for a quarter of the season. This goes to show how many goals Messi is capable of scoring even at this late stage of his career.
I believe that during the next year, Inter Miami will do very well and will proceed to the playoffs. However, in order to make it to the playoffs, Messi must take leadership and help his teammates get better so they can build an overall strong team and not just rely on one player.
You might be thinking about how Messi was able to achieve the greatness he has now. Messi started playing soccer at the young age of four. He has put hours on top of hours practicing every single day. His dedication came to show when he made his debut in 2004. He was selected to play on the professional Barcelona soccer team at the age of 17. This goes to show how hard work and dedication always pays off in the end.
Moving on, did you know that Messi has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Inter Miami, bringing him up to the end of 2025, with a reported option to extend for another 12 months? Messi's base salary is $12 million, with a total guaranteed compensation of just over $20 million. Those figures make him the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer by a massive margin. For reference, the second highest paying player in MLS is Lorenzo with a $7.5 million base salary and $15.4 million in total compensation.
Remember, if you are on any of the Lakeside teams then always remember Messi’s dedication and look up to him.
