On March 16th, 2022 the Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Broncos for low-key players and many draft picks including a first-round pick for 2023. This is how the Seahawks have the no. 5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft that will take place in April. Today, I will tell you the top three most likely candidates for that pick.
At number three, Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was recently signed to a 3-year contract. Because of this, Seattle’s front office could trade Levis for some quality prospects that better suit their team. Levis is a quality quarterback with arguably the strongest arm in college football. He helped the Wildcats get ranked as high as 10th in during the last season. He had a completion percentage of 65.4, which was 5th highest in college football.
Number two is Alabama outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr. Over three seasons he recorded an astounding 207 pressures, which measure how defensive players force the offense to make mistakes or take losses. 207 pressures was way above average, as the average number of pressures in three seasons for a college linebacker was 150. Also, Seattle’s rush defense was the second-worst in the NFL, allowing 3.85 yards per carry. Their rush defense needs to get better and Anderson could make a difference.
At number one, Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who led their defense to back-to-back national championships. Carter recorded six sacks over two seasons, an incredible number for a defensive tackle, whose primary job is run stopping. Jalen Carter is an amazing pass rusher and can stop the run, and Seattle needs pass rushers as I mentioned earlier. In my opinion, Jalen Carter is the best option for the Seahawks. He is a combination of strength and power and can make a great impact on the Seahawks rush defense. Some say he could even change the Seahawks defense from second-worst to top 15.
With these draft picks, the Seahawks could drastically improve their rush defense and quarterback play. With this improvement they could reach a whole new level, maybe even past the wild card round of the playoffs next season.
