Introduction:

Chat GPT is an AI program for doing many things. I decided to test its joke-making ability. I got three jokes and I will do a scientific analysis on them. 

Here’s the first joke: 

Chat GPT: Why do seagulls fly over the sea?

Because if they flew over the bay they’d be bagels

Can we talk about how stupid this joke is? If I wanted a corny dad joke, I would’ve asked my dad instead of ChatGPT. Additionally, this joke isn’t realistic. Seagulls are living creatures. They breathe, eat, and drink. However, bagels are a food. They don’t breathe. They aren’t alive. How could a seagull, made of meat, turn into a bagel, made from flour, yeast, and salt? Finally, I’m pretty sure that seagulls don’t hit some magical barrier when they fly over a bay, nor do they transform into bagels. 

The second joke disappoints even more than the first:

Chat GPT: What did one wall say to the other wall?

I’ll meet you at the corner!

Walls can’t talk. They don’t have mouths. They don’t have brains. They're inanimate objects. You would expect Chat GPT to know this, but apparently its feeble AI mind cannot comprehend such facts. Additionally, walls don’t have to meet another wall at a corner. For all I know, the walls could be parallel to each other. If they were parallel to each other they would never meet at a corner. The joke is clearly unintuitive and unrealistic. At the end of the day, jokes shouldn’t make you think; they should make you laugh.  

The final joke may be the worst:

Chat GPT: Why did the coffee file a police report?

Because it got mugged!

How can coffee even get mugged? It is coffee; it doesn't have money. You don’t see coffee work 9 to 5 at your local gas station; you see it in your local Starbucks. Even if the coffee had money (haha!), how could the coffee have a wallet? Coffee doesn’t have clothes! Also, a human would have no reason to mug a cup of coffee. Coffee doesn’t have any belongings. If it was mugged by another cup of coffee, how would it be threatened? The coffee wouldn’t be able to hold a knife or any other weapon. Even if the coffee managed to get to the police station (it doesn’t have legs), it probably would get consumed by the police officer.

In all, Chat GPT isn’t quite the best source for jokes. The jokes it produces make no sense and are not funny in the slightest. Instead, you should get your jokes from the Leo humor section!
