On January 14th, 2023, eighty thousand people gathered in protest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s radical proposals to alter the Israeli judicial system. The protestors flooded Tel Aviv’s HaBima square and streets in Jerusalem despite pouring rain. Seeking Supreme Court reforms in terms of nominations and greater parliament power, the highly controversial proposal evoked many fierce emotions and opinions from protestors. Many compared the Israeli Prime Minister to Russian President Vladimir Putin or described this change as “semi-democratic Hungary and theocratic Iran.” The public response has been far from positive. The outcome remains vague, but the courage and unity of the protestors is highly admirable.
