EA Sports or 2K, Which is better?

Sports are amazing and fun to play, but when it is raining or snowing outside, and you have to stay at home, sports video games are another fun option. Today we will review the three top sports video games of all time, made by the two best companies in sports video games. 

Madden, FIFA and so many more. What do they have in common? They are all made by EA Sports. EA Sports is the biggest sports video game producer with over 180 video games made. EA has sold over 325 million copies of its games worldwide. In this article, we will take you through two of EA’s most popular games and one close competitor. 

The other competitor is 2K, a very popular competitor that makes NBA 2K and PGA Tour 2K23. While EA Sports has better visuals, 2K is more competitive and rewarding. 2K has a smaller number of games but has a basketball game that EA doesn’t have. We will go more into detail about this basketball game later in the article. So without further ado, let’s go into our three games.

1. EA Sports FC. Last September, EA Sports and FIFA failed to make a contract deal, resulting in the two organizations parting ways after 23 years of collaboration. EA’s soccer game changed its name to EA Sports FC 24. EA Sports FC is an amazing worldwide soccer video game where you can get your favorite players and make your dream team. There is also a season mode where you can control players in a club and win the World Cup or the UEFA Champions League. It has extremely realistic graphics, partnering with Frostbite and Hypermotion. This leads to cutting-edge graphics for the best playing experience possible. EA Sports FC can be played through multiple platforms, including Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox. There is also a mobile version that is slightly different.

The console version of EA Sports FC has many modes to choose from, such as Seasons, Kick Off, and Ultimate Team to fit every player's unique preferences. In Kick-Off mode, you can play classic matches with any team of your liking. This mode is good if you are playing a quick match with friends or if you just want to play a fun, quick match without overcomplicating things. Seasons mode allows you to play online, where you can choose a team and play against random opponents to gain points and advance to a higher division. This is a good mode for players who are competitive and want to challenge themselves. Finally, there is Ultimate Team. In Ultimate Team, you can buy players from the market and upgrade them. This allows every single player to have their unique dream team. This year, EA Sports FC also includes women's players in the Ultimate Team. 

The mobile version is very similar to the console version. The main difference is that there are seasonal live events where you can play a daily match or skill game to earn players. Plus, the mobile version is free! You can download it from the Apple Store or Google Play. Overall, EA Sports FC is an amazing game you should try if you like or are interested in soccer.

2. A rare non-EA game that dominates in a particular sport, NBA 2K is the most popular basketball game, with thousands of players online at all times. NBA 2K24 is estimated to pull in $5.5 billion by the end of 2024 with nearly 5 million copies sold. Even though sales peaked with NBA 2K21, at 14 million copies, and though NBA 2K16 is a fan favorite, it continues to rule the basketball gaming world. Online activity is still increasing, with 10% more active players yearly. Strangely, with copies sold going down, some speculate that NBA 2K24 may be the last of the 2K series. Some want better quality games; some want more games. So far there have been 23 games in the series since the original 2K was released in 1999.

Every few years, NBA 2K switches up the features in the game. In NBA 2K24, there are four core game modes. MyTeam, MyCareer, MyNBA and Play Now. All are relatively self-explanatory. In MyTeam, you can build your dream team with all your NBA favorites. MyCareer lets you live your NBA dream playing as any player. MyNBA shows you the role of a team manager, managing your NBA team and leading your franchise to glory. Play Now is super simple: you can play a quick game!

3. Another one of EA Sports' biggest successes, and one that we certainly can’t forget, is Madden. Madden is an American football video game that simulates the NFL. Madden has reigned over all football games for years now. Just like FIFA and NBA 2K, each year, Madden releases a new game with more features and new players. The game has sold over 130 million copies total over all of the 40 games in the series. Madden fans enjoy the older games, such as Madden 07 and 08, saying they are “super nostalgic” and “provide so much customization with gameplay.” Madden is based on star coach John Madden and his legacy. 

In Madden, you control players to run up the field or throw for a touchdown. In the superstar mode, you start as a player in his rookie season in the NFL Combine. Then, you progress as the player, season after season. This mode is for players who want an in-depth experience in the NFL. Another mode is the Ultimate Team mode. Here, you complete events to gain players and create your unique Ultimate Team. This format is just like EA Sports FC 24’s. A faster option in this game is the quick-play mode. In this mode, players can choose any team of their liking and play against an opponent. The opponent can be a CPU or a friend. After you choose your team, you can choose any of the team’s uniforms, even if they are old or outdated. Then you play a no-stakes, fun game.

Overall, Both brands are amazing, but EA Sports takes the slim lead in this battle. EA has much better graphics and more games to play, but if you only play basketball, 2K is the better company. With many of the best-selling sports video games ever and over 325 million copies sold across all of their games, EA Sports is the winner in the race to control sports video games.
