Last year, the Seattle Mariners made it to the American League Divisional round of the Major League Baseball playoffs with an impressive end-of-season rally. To qualify for the playoffs, catcher Cal Raleigh hit an amazing walk-off home run in the final game of the regular season, putting Seattle into the postseason for the first time in twenty years. In the playoffs, the Mariners made it pretty far. They beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-0, in the American League Wild Card series but lost all three games in the Divisional Round to the Houston Astros. The Mariners had a great season. But the question is, can they make the postseason again?
Looking to build their roster in preparation, the Mariners acquired Teoscar Hernandez, a left fielder, from the Blue Jays, and Kolten Wong, a shortstop, from the Milwaukee Brewers, in the offseason. Still, can they do it? Well, the Mariners have improved a lot as a team. Between trades and training, the Mariners team is ready for the 2023 season. Unlike most offseasons, we haven’t traded the whole team! Apparently, the president of baseball operations, Jerry Dipoto, is rethinking his plan for the Mariners.
The Mariners recently signed Felnin Celesten, a shortstop, and a few other players in the international draft. Celesten is fast and hits for power. Some of the other players that they signed include Delfry Carrasco, the infielder, who can play many positions. Kay Robles is an outfielder from the Dominican Republic. He is an above-average player with great speed and a lot of strength.
In conclusion, the Mariners have a decent shot at the postseason this year. The question is, will they come out on top? Spring training begins now…
