Today, I will be ranking NFL uniforms from the American Football Conference (AFC). This list is completely opinionated and subjective. I will rank only the top 10 jerseys, leaving out the bottom six. Each team has two or more jerseys, including a home kit, which is in the team colors, and a white away kit. Some teams also have an additional alternate kit, which has a variety of colors and designs. There are also throwback jerseys, which refer to designs from the past. Ranking is based on creativity, color combo and overall design of the jerseys. Have a good read!
10.New York Jets: This jersey’s green and white colors were sleek and modern, albeit similar to the Philadelphia Eagles. The throwback uniform was a nice touch with a separate logo on the helmet, which made it instantly recognizable as the Jets — especially with that classic Joe Namath depiction. While the regular uniform didn't stand out much, the alternate and throwback sets were solid. The all-black alternate in particular looked slick and was executed well.
9. Pittsburgh Steelers: The black and gold uniforms were bold and gritty; they reminded me of a bee, but in a cool way. The number font stood out with a slight italicized style that made the uniforms feel unique, bringing to mind players like Ben Roethlisberger. The alternate uniform added a nice contrast with more white, giving the team variety in their look.
8. Denver Broncos: The throwback and alternate helmets were seriously detailed and cool. I’m not usually a huge fan of orange, but it worked really well with the white, and the midnight navy alternate looked amazing. The redesigned logos, especially the mountain details, added an extra level of creativity. The throwback reminded me of the John Elway era, and the retro shade of blue gave off strong 1970s vibes. Overall, it was a great mix of old-school and modern.
7. Miami Dolphins: I really liked the aqua blue, orange, and white. The colors worked great together. It gave off a bright and futuristic look that popped on the field, especially compared to duller uniforms like the Jaguars’ (who didn’t make the top 10). The teal especially stood out and worked well with the green of the field. The throwback uniforms and the classic dolphin logo were nice touches that added to the appeal.
6. Los Angeles Chargers: This might be the most underrated uniform in the league. The powder blue and sunshine gold were a bright and fun combination. The lightning bolts on the shoulders and pants looked awesome and gave it a unique style. The dark blue alternate was sleek, too, kind of like a blackout kit but with a different twist. The yellow bolts really made the uniform pop. The 2020 redesign helped the Chargers stand out, and this is actually my favorite kit to use in Retro Bowl.
5. Tennessee Titans: I liked the contrast between the light and dark blue — it created a bold and unique look. The logo on the helmet looked good, and the number font had sharp ends that added a little extra flair. The shoulder pad design was similar to armor, and I thought it was super cool and different. Even though they got rid of their baby-blue Oilers throwback, the rest of the uniform lineup still looked strong and had a lot of creative potential.
4. New England Patriots: The dark blue and red worked together to create a sharp, patriotic look. The alternate uniform blended the colors nicely, with a brighter shade of red that really popped. I also liked that they brought back Pat the Patriot on some designs. The only thing that kept them out of the top three was that the home and away uniforms looked a little plain and could use a redesign. Still, everything else was really solid.
3. Cincinnati Bengals: The tiger-stripe theme was super creative and gave the team an identity. The black and orange made the team instantly recognizable, and their 2020 redesign leaned even more into that theme, especially with the pants and helmet. The white and black alternate uniform, nicknamed the “White Tiger,” was one of my favorites. It stood out from every other team with a completely fresh look. The orange and black alternate was also great, staying true to their roots.
