The Major League Baseball season starts on March 27th, so let’s get ready by going over the World Series frontrunner–and the underdog. This was a wild offseason, with Juan Soto and the New York Mets signing the biggest deal in North American sports history for $765 million over 15 years. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers spent over a billion dollars on new players and are poised for success in the 2025 season. The Dodgers won the World Series last year against the New York Yankees. Let’s start with the frontrunner.
The Frontrunner: The Dodgers are in a great place to win the World Series again. As I said before, they made a lot of moves to get better players, spending over a billion dollars in the process. They added pitchers including top Japanese prospect Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, and Blake Snell, and re-signed standout players Teoscar Hernandez (a former Mariner) and Tommy Edman. They have now upped their pitching staff, which was already superb, and signed many better hitters to an offense that was already second-best in the MLB.
The Underdog: The Detroit Tigers have the potential to win the World Series in 2025. Last year, they lost in the American League Division Series (ALDS) to the Cleveland Guardians, though it came down to the final game. They signed players like Gleyber Torres and Jack Flaherty. They are a young team with talent and potential, and if they gain momentum at the end of the regular season, I think they have a real chance to win the World Series.
Whoever your favorite baseball team is, remember: the MLB season is coming up. Get ready for it!
