There are a lot of sequels in movie theaters these days. But are they any good? Before you read ahead to these reviews, make sure you are prepared to see a few minor spoilers!
Despicable Me 4
Despicable Me 4 is really good. Personally, I think it’s the best one. In the movie, Gru and his wife, Lucy, have a son named Gru Jr. Gru Jr. does not like Gru. Gru really wants his son to like him, but he doesn’t. Gru goes to a high school reunion at Lycee Pas Bon, which translates to “bad high school” in French. He meets his nemesis, Maxime Le Mal, at the reunion. Maxime gets arrested because he wreaks havoc. Gru soon finds himself in danger and needs to get out of his house and move somewhere else. He moves to a new neighborhood and tries to make friends, but mostly fails. Watch the movie to find out more! Overall, I would rate it an 8.5/10. Although I think that it is a pretty good movie, it got pretty bad reviews. I recommend watching it!

Paddington in Peru:
I watched Paddington in Peru a week after watching Paddington 2, but you don’t need a lot of background information to understand the plot. Overall, it was a good movie, but I felt like it was more of a spinoff of the Paddington series than an actual sequel. In this movie, Paddington goes on an adventure to Peru to visit his aunt, but the movie itself does little to advance the actual plot of Paddington’s life. At the end of the movie, they all return home, and Paddington’s life seems to stay fairly unchanged from the beginning of the movie. There was also a song that seemed unnecessary and somewhat random. Altogether, I think it was a good movie, but not a must-see.

Moana 2:
Moana 2 was somewhat underwhelming to me. I understand why they made Moana go on another journey, but the plot of Moana 2 was too similar to the first Moana for me. She goes on another sea journey, meets a “misunderstood” villain who sings a song, and then must find another island. Am I the only one who sees the parallels here? I’m not saying that Moana 2 is the exact same as Moana, and you definitely still learn new things about Moana throughout the movie, but I feel like Disney could’ve changed the plot a bit more. However, I did like the ending, because giving her a tattoo opens up so many more possibilities for her story. It gives Disney more avenues to explore and maybe to move away from the repetitive sea voyage plot.
