Chapter 1:
I woke up to yet another boring day. My life was boring. Meanwhile, my best friend, Hailey Strack's, is amazing. She went ice skating and skiing for winter break. Meanwhile, I went to a seminar about quadratic equations.
Snore city!
I needed something exciting, something that would make me happy - maybe even a little bit scared - but fun.
So far, nothing.
Nothing. Nothing. Nothing...
But …
Before I went to bed, before I started dreaming about an exciting life that I couldn’t have, I saw a shooting star outside my window. I made a wish on that star.
Please, please let me have an exciting life.
Anything! Anything at all! Just fun, not at all like that seminar. You know, something like being a hero.
And it will come true.
I know it will.
I just don’t know when.
Today, finally, the (disturbingly) most exciting thing that has happened in my life.
I was having a sleepover with Hailey. Yay!!! But not at her house, at mine! MY house! EEEEK!!!
We have been set up in the attic, with an old bunk bed from when my mom was a kid and shared a room with her twin. But the most important thing, we were going to have fun.
Chapter 2:
Hailey’s Cybertruck parked outside my house. Hailey ran out, hugged me, and we went up to the attic where it was surprisingly clean. It had a cute beige carpet, a pink bunk bed and a play area.
And guess what?
Boxes.
Everywhere.
I mean an entire wall, lined with them, some scattered around the play area, on the carpet, and even one opened on the top bunk of the bed. It was still clean though, with no cobwebs or dust. It looked like a twin’s room after they just moved into a new house.
“I call bottom bunk!” yelled Hailey and ploofed down on it.
I sighed and climbed onto the top bunk and grabbed and the box that was on it. Just as I was about to place it back down on the floor, something caught my eye.
A letter.
It read:
Good day, Trana Bringore. Your daughter is part of a long chain of heroes and you are not supposed to keep her talent locked away. I am a villain. I bet she can’t stop me!!! I make evil plots. Send her out right away. Any questions? Answer to 675 Oakwood Dr. -Anonymous
I looked at the letter over and over.
It looks like someone is trying to lure me out for some reason. I noticed Hailey reading over my shoulder. “Hey…” she said. “685 Oakwood Dr. is next door…” I thought of my next door neighbor at the same time as Hailey.
We looked at each other.
“Trixie,” we said at once.
