People read books daily, but have you ever thought about how we read them? I would say that there are two main categories: paper books and e-books.
You can disagree, but I believe that paper books are superior; to me, the rustling of a book page flipping is oddly satisfying, and new book pages have a super nice, calming smell to them.
Plus, I researched that when reading, people retain information better when they read it in a paper book rather than on an e-book, and that children have higher levels of concentration, too. Not only that, but if you’re reading on your phone or computer, countless things are bound to distract you. So if you’re doing late-night cramming for a test that you did not study for, you should note that it’s better to study on paper!
Another reason why e-books are worse than paper books is that they are worse for your eyes. After all, you’re always just staring at a screen.
Lastly, paper books can offer unique social experiences that e-readers can’t replicate. When you go to the library to borrow books, you get opportunities to interact with fellow book lovers and ask your local librarians for recommendations. Just downloading another book on your e-reader lets you miss out on all those opportunities. It’s socially better to go to the library more, especially if you’re one of those extroverted people who say hi to all the librarians and teachers!
But to be fair, I get why people would like e-books better. People can store thousands of books all in one place without adding extra weight to their backpacks. Plus, they automatically bookmark your pages, meaning that you won’t have to worry about bookmarks falling out all the time! (Unless you’re one of those people who are obsessed with aesthetic bookmarks…)
Therefore, although e-books are more convenient and easy to travel with, paper books offer you a more unique, unforgettable experience, whether it’s interacting with other book lovers or cramming for a test. This is why I personally think paper books are better, but in the end, it's up to you to choose between the two-or maybe both!
