This is a mandatory practical in IBDP Chemistry for the topic Stoichiometry where students find out the percentage of calcium carbonate in eggshells using the concept of back titration.
During the experiment, students learned basic skills on how to operate chemistry lab equipment as well as applying the concept stoichiometry to a laboratory work. Afterwards, students are asked to create a lab report to demonstrate their competency in the Communicative dimension.
Mole concept is something that students find challenging. It requires analysis in order to be able to connect the concepts involving calculations in gas, solid and liquid substances.
By using the worksheet, students are first given a road map to the concepts, then given basic questions to absorb and apply them. This way students will be more fluent in answering mole concepts related problems.
