The Quadratics Project
Having to learn quadratics in term 2, the assessment was to make an illustration of quadratics that are applied to real-life using demos, then create a slide presentation to present in front of the class. I chose an architectural building called Celler Modernista De Sant Cugat, or in a simple form, The Bodega Modernista is located in Sant Cugat Museum, Barcelona, Spain. The Bodega or a wine cellar 1921 by Cesar Martinell, an architect who specialized in agriculture designs and architecture. In the 1950s, as the wine industry declined, so did this building, however, it was until the early 2000s that the building was revived and made into a museum.
The goal is to find out the parabolic shape of the archway. With a point height of 15.5 meters high. From the center point to the right and left side, the length will be 7.5 meters with a height of 8 meters. From this project, quadratic equations can be used to find a parabolic shape which will help architects to build houses. Using the parabolic shape in designs is very common because of its strong oval shape which can carry heavyweight.
Learning quadratics was actually really hard for me at first, but then I began to enjoy the learning process, realizing how the equation actually works. I am glad that I got a chance to enjoy math and actually know its use of it in my daily life.
In this math project I create a parabola inspired from a game that I play. So the project is calculating the vertex in an object. But then I have to interpret it in something else, in this case I find the laws of parabola in a game that I play. The process of creating this product is fun because I get to interpret any situations that involve mathematical calculations.
The Building Slide Park Project
To achieve the dimensions of Intelligent, Innovative, and Communicative, student build a family slide park project.Through this learning experiences, student develop their understanding the concept of Pythagoras and Trigonometry in real life situation, enhance their thinking skills to solve the problems by calculating the slides and the rubber mats based on the requirements. Students also strengthen their communication skill by presenting their project to the class.
