Another aspect of being human is that we created legends and myths to explain real-life events. Most cultures have a story of how the Earth was created or your parents may have told you that thunder and lightning was merely the clouds bumping into each other. What did your parents tell you about where babies come from? One common explanation, which originated in Germany many centuries ago, is that storks bring babies. The souls of unborn babies were said to live in marshes and ponds and, since storks visit these places often, they could catch the souls and bring them to parents. Can we prove or disprove this often-told tale?
In Term 1, I solved a case about the correlation between number of babies and number of pairs of nesting storks using available data from some countries in Europe. The data that I have processed then I visualised it in a scatterplot graph using Google Sheets. Google Sheets as a tool also help me to determine the trend line of the graph.
