My Procedural Text
To showcase their intelligent and communicative dimension, Cikal Lebak Bulus students from Y3 created many fun products. One of them is procedural text. Students actually got the chance to choose between informational or procedural text. This assignment assessed them in two learning objectives:
Write fiction and non-fiction with focused ideas, logical organization and relevant and interesting word choice (including poetry, report, list, biography) adding figurative language to enhance writing
Write to communicate a message to a particular audience for example, a news story, instructions and a fantasy story
The students are required to do two steps for this product, which also is a collaboration with science program- the first step was to create their text in Google Slides.
The second step for this product is to handwrite their text onto a piece of paper and add some illustration!
"It was so exhausting writing this."
"Writing my own procedural or informational text in the paper."
Biography Text
Another fun products our students have created is a biography text. With the same learning objectives as the procedural text, the students had a chance to explore their choices and interests. As a practice, the student have created a biography for their chosen idol.
A biography of Lisa Blackpink
As an end-of-semester project, our students then were assigned to make a biography hanger on their parents'.
"I pick this because I get to ask my dad about his life and get to know him better. And I like making it.
"I chose that because because it has my mom in it and I like interviewing."
"You might find the nose weird since it's the writing 'ayah'."
"I chose this because it's about my dad and also I'm sometimes curious about people's life."
"The description is inside."
"I like that activity because you like the art and craft and it's the longest thing I've written in my life."
A Practice on: Simple Past Tense
During this review, students had a chance to refresh their knowledge on simple past tense. With the same learning objectives and dimension, the students did the assignment on Google Slide. Besides doing some fill-in-the-blank, students also wrote about their weekends.
English Acquisition: Get All The Info
" I pick it because it's interesting."
In this section, you will see how our students showcase their intelligent, communicative, and reflective dimension. Some learning objectives for this assignment are using a range of strategies (i.e. highlighting, looking at tables/figures) to derive meaning from a text, using a range of specific vocabulary to suit different situations indicating an awareness that language is influenced by purpose, audience and context, and self-monitoring and self-correcting on word choice and sentence fluency when writing. Our students were learning to highlight important information from an article which then used to make a short summary.
