Scroll Saw – Safety Rules Jefferson County Public Schools

1. Operate only with instructor’s permission and after you have received instruction. Inform the instructor if this machine is not operating correctly.

2. Remove jewelry, eliminate loose clothing, and confine long hair.

3. Use properly secured and adjusted guards at all times.

4. Always use proper eye protection and avoid distractions.

5. Make all adjustments with the power off, then rotate the motor by hand as a final check. Have 1” between upper chuck and the sleeve. Use this method to check for blade tension.

6. Guide the material slowly through the machine with both hands, keeping fingers away from the cut line.

7. The scroll saw blade should be installed to cut on the down stroke. Teeth should point down.

8. Be sure the hold down is pressing lightly on the work piece.

9. Report mechanical defects or a broken blade to the instructor.

10. The feed rate for this saw depends on radius of the cut, type and thickness of the material. Improper feed rate could result in an injury/accident.

11. When finished using the scroll saw; allow the saw to come to a full stop then clean the machine and the area around it.
