All unmanned satellites and probes that have been launched into space have been, to varying degrees, autonomous robots. Whether it is just to automatically transmit information back to Earth or to fire their rockets at the right time and duration these advanced systems display most (or all) of the characteristics of robots. Satellite is the term used to describe objects that are orbiting a planet. Humans have made and launched thousands of satellites, most of which are still orbiting the Earth. A space probe is a spacecraft that is sent away from the planet with the purpose of collecting information and transmitting it back home. Space probes have been sent to the other planets in our solar system and have examined things like moons, rings, asteroids, and comets.
