History of LS3

LS3 (Legged Squad Support System) or "Big Dog" is a robot made DARPA to help soldiers carry heavy loads up to 400 pounds. It is designed to carry heavy loads through the same terrains the soldiers can walk through.

The LS3 (Big Dog) military robot is a robot because, It is programed/controlled by the DARPA to help soldiers carry up to 400 pounds across walking terrain made by James B. This robot is also allowed to carry power sources for soldiers to charge needed equipment for their mission.The LS3 Big Dog is a robot that can take many orders as the military commands what they need to it.

This LS3 also had prototypes which is a model of a machine and robots are machines. They added technologies to allow soldiers to command the dog an order which makes it more of a robot because robots take orders. . This robot has most all the qualities of a robot.

    • 5ft 3in tall
    • 1300 lbs
    • 3 mph walking speed
    • 7 mph running speed
    • 400 lbs carrying weight
    • 24 hours of running time
    • Actuator is hydraulics

6 Characteristics

The LS3 robot has the characteristic of a body. His body helps him carry everything. He also, has a brain to take his commands and know the terrain that he needs to walk across. This robot also includes sensors to help him see out his terrain and his allies. LS3 is able to move across where he needs because of his actuators that help him know when and how to move. Robots need programming, the LS3 has his programming for all the task it needs to do. Lastly the LS3 has behavior, almost a human like dog that is capable of more.
