Robonaut 2
by Joshua M.
The reason Robonaut was made, was to do the dangerous tasks that humans do in space. The robot has been improved from the last one. It was sent to the international space station in 2011.But before it is sent up R2 will stay on the space station indefinitely to allow engineers on the ground to learn more about how humanoid robots fare in microgravity. When the legs were attached to the torso, R2 has a fully extended leg span of 9 feet, giving it great flexibility for movement around the space station. There is also a platform that makes it act like a centaur, with 4 wheels to travel on land.
Robonaut 2 is a humanoid robot that is supposed to take place of a human astronaut. Robonaut has a body and all the parts that make it a robot it has a body that the legs arms and head are attached to. It also has a brain that tells it what it needs to do. Robonaut 2 has sensors in its head that tell it where to place its legs or how to fix anything that it would need to. Robonaut has actuators that are controlled by the brain they are motors in its body and arms and legs that help it move and repair thing aboard the international space station. Robonaut was programed to assist the astronauts aboard the international space station with all sorts of things such as repairs that are difficult for the astronauts to reach and repair and to do anything that the others aboard the station can do. It behaves by repairing and it acts as a human would it has been programmed to do anything a human can. Since it can do anything that a person can it will replace all astronauts in the future
