Drafting & Design concepts

Syllabus

Drafting and CADD (Computer Aided Drafting & Design) are two methods of creating technical drawings. Course content includes fundamentals of layout, construction and dimensioning techniques as applied to two-dimensional drawings; systems and database management; and production of computer-generated drawings to ASME and other applicable specifications. The majority of the student’s work will be done on the computer using Autodesk FUSION360, the same 3D Modelling software that is used in the Project Lead the Way Engineering courses.

Course Description:  This course is designed for students considering a career in construction, mechanics, manufacturing or engineering. It will help them to develop their I-CAP as they create drawing related to many different technical careers.  In this course students will learn many basic drawing skills and will develop collaborative and communication skills used in many technical professions. Students will practice using CADD to create 3D models of objects, make drawings and create design solutions to technical problems.

Student Outcomes:

• Students will create, save and organize their work digitally on computers.

• Students will work independently and collaborate to create design proposals.

• Students will read technical drawings to answer questions and create models.

• Students will create, dimension and clearly notate technical drawings.

• Students will explore requirements and opportunities in many technical careers.

• Students will create and modify virtual 3D models of existing objects and original designs.

• Students will identify potential ethical dilemmas posed by a given design solution.

• Students will use the design process to develop an original solution to a problem.
