Dakota Ridge High School would like to offer computer science classes in addition to engineering. With the current economy we have not been able to hire and retain a computer science teacher. Once a teacher is hired (trained) the first course we will be offering is Computer Science Principles a part of the engineering program.

Computer Science Essentials provides a big picture understanding of information technology along with many basic skills the will be use in all following courses. Computer Science Principles gives students a deeper understanding of many different fields of computing. The third year course, Cyber Security, allow students to gain specialized skills in computer and network safety. The fourth year course, Engineering Design & Development, requires student to apply all that they have learned to a design project of their choice.
Pathways to Technology Capstone Project
Below are several examples of possible course schedules that would lead a student to be able to complete a STEM Capstone Project focused on technology. These example do generally represent the possible sequence of technology classes, but the other electives can very dramatically based on student interests. Any of the courses highlighted in green or yellow could be chosen to be part of the students coherant sequence of 4 STEM classes.
A student could take a variety of robotics, drafting and computer science courses. This would give them a broad technology background to apply to a problem solving STEM Capstone Project.
Even with just a few technology courses a student could be ready for a STEM Capstone Project. Taking STEM science, math and writing classes make this easier.
