MowBot

What is a robot? A robot is a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer. Robots are seen every day at home, most people just think of them as everyday things like a toilet at this point. But in today's society more and more robots are becoming part of our daily lives, and we as a species are so used to it we don't even notice them anymore.

For example, lawn bot is a robot the mows your lawn. A typical robotic lawn mower (in particular earlier generation models) requires the user to set up a border wire around the lawn that defines the area to be mowed. The robot uses this wire to locate the boundary of the area to be trimmed and in some cases to locate a re-charging dock. .The mower can find its charging station via radio frequency emissions, by following a boundary wire, or by following an optional guide wire. This can eliminate wear patterns in the lawn caused by the mower only being able to follow one wire back to the station. To get to remote areas or areas only accessible through narrow passages the mower can follow a guide wire or a boundary wire out of the station.Batteries used include Nickel–metal hydride (NiMH), lithium-ion and lead-acid. Robotic mowers are capable of maintaining up to 20,000 m2 (220,000 sq ft) of grass.Robotic lawn mowers are increasingly sophisticated, are self-docking and some contain rain sensors if necessary, nearly eliminating human interaction.

Possibly the first commercial robotic lawn mower was the MowBot, introduced and patented in 1969 and already showing many features of today's most popular products. In 1995, the first fully solar powered robotic mower became available.Robotic lawn mowers represented the second largest category of domestic robots used by the end of 2005. In 2012, the growth of robotic lawn mower sales was 15 times that of the traditional styles. With the emergence of smartphones some robotic mowers have integrated features within custom apps to adjust settings or scheduled mowing times and frequency, as well as manually control the mower with a digital joystick.

In short, the lawnbot will eventually become part of the everyday domestic robots we use. Who knows what will become part of our everyday lives in the future.

Domestic Robots are robots that are a type of service robot that helps people with types of jobs. They are robots that everybody can buy so that they help them to clean the house mow the lawn, feed the pets, control the thermostat, etc. The history of these robots started when Leonardo Da Vinci began to design robots that look like humans to help him do things like build other things. People kept designing these robots since Da Vinci started to make his design in the 1700s. The first ever actual robot was made in japan in 1932 and it was called Lilliput, it was a wind up robot that was made to entertain children. They are pretty common because some of them are cheap, they are the cleaning robots like the roomba.

The Domestic robot that I have decided to talk about is the Robomow robot. This robot is a lawn mower that “mows” your lawn without anybody operating it. It is just like the roomba cleaning robot in the sense that it is controlled all by itself. It also has a mode that is made to scan the area that is going to be mowed. It then is put into the mode that you want it to mow and the level of grass that you want to remove. There are three models of this robot, the first one is called Rx model. This one's for small houses in the urban area of a city that don't have a lot of grass. The second model is the RC, this one is a bit bigger than the RX and it is made for suburban areas that have a yard that is a bit bigger. The last model is the RS model and it is made for suburban areas with a large yard that has a lot of grass. These robots are expensive, they start at 1000 dollars and can even be over 2000 dollars.

Would I buy one of these robots, no I wouldn’t buy one. Why?, because it is a waste of money and also I like to mow the lawn myself. Also having a machine mow your lawn is a bit weird, and you might not get the lawn mowed to how you want it. I like mowing the lawn and I would miss out on all the things I can find on my lawn. The only good thing about this is that it is easier to maintain and take care of than a normal lawn mower.
