Cam
A simple machine that can convert rotary motion into linear motion. Typically a cam has an inclined plane attached to the surface or edge of a wheel, such that, when it spins it creates a linear force towards or away from the center.
A cam is a rotating or sliding piece in a mechanical linkage used especially in transforming rotary motion into linear motion. It is often a part of a rotating wheel or shaft that strikes a lever at one or more points on its circular path.
A Cam is a reciprocating, oscillating or rotating body which imparts reciprocating or oscillating motion to a second body, called the follower, with which it is in contact. The shape of the cam depends upon its own motion, the required motion of the follower and the shape of the contact face of the follower.
