Stationary Belt Sander – Safety Rules Jeffco, CO

1. Operate only with instructor’s permission and after you have received instruction. Inform the instructor if this machine is not operating correctly.

2. Remove jewelry, eliminate loose clothing, and confine long hair.

3. Make sure all guards are in place and operating correctly.

4. Always use proper eye protection and avoid distractions.

5. Move the work back and forth across the face of the belt to avoid over heating, burning and/or tearing the sanding belt.

6. The sander should not be operated with a torn belt. Report a torn belt to the instructor.

7. Always support the work against the table or end stop whenever possible to prevent the piece from being jerked from your hands. Note: A vertical sander has a table, a horizontal sander has an end stop).

8. The table should be adjusted to within 1/16” of the abrasive belt to minimize the chance of the material being caught between the belt and the table.

9. Keep hands clear of the abrasive belt while operating and keep material flat on the table.

10. Check the angle of the tilting table before turning on the power.

11. When finished using the belt sander, turn off power and dust off the machine.
