URI Practice
There are two options. Consider both and determine which is most appropriate in the given situation:
1. Use the procedure for Special situation — parent / child periodicals paid on one PO Line.
If the membership consists of only a couple of titles, and one is primary, consider using the parent / child procedure. It is simpler, but can be confusing if more than two publications and is technically less accurate.
Example: Medical Library Association Membership contains two titles: Journal of the Medical Library Association and MLA News.
Attach a PO Line for the membership payment to the Journal of the Medical Library Association.
Make a Note in the POL that the actual subscription is to Medical Library Association Membership (EBSCO title no. 560-599-003).
Create a Technical POL for MLA News and under Associated PO Lines enter the POL for the Journal of the Medical Library Association.
2. Create a POL with no inventory for the membership itself and separate POLs for each publication.
This is appropriate when the membership contains multiple publications and when the included publications are online-only or contain a mix of print and online.
Example: National Association of Secondary School Principals Subscription Membership contains three titles: Principal's Research Review (online), News Leader (print), and Principal Leadership (print).
Acquisitions => Purchase Order Lines => Order Without Inventory to create PO Line for membership. In the Description field, note the EBSCO Title Number for the membership as well as the included publications and their EBSCO Title Numbers.
Create a Technical PO Line of the appropriate type (print or electronic) for each included publication and under Associated PO Lines enter the POL for the membership. (Note that if an included publication is electronic, it is not possible to simply link the portfolio to the membership POL, because by definition the membership POL has no inventory. You must create a separate POL for the portfolio and link it with Associated PO Lines.)
