Overview
Acme Book Binders will deliver and pick up shipments according to the schedule given to the bindery tech.
When the shipment is received, the boxes are unpacked, sorted, and verified against the packing slip (aka "Job Report").
Any bindery for another URI dept. will be picked up by that dept. after the bindery tech has notified them that the shipment has arrived.
Receiving the Shipment
When the delivery arrives, a signature is required for the driver. Any staff member of the unit may sign if the bindery tech is out of the office.
1. Open the boxes and set aside any items which were returned unbound. These items will have notations from Acme in them indicating why they could not be bound. Address these special items after the other items in the shipment have been processed.
2. Do NOT unbox any theses for other URI departments. Just count the items and make sure the total matches what is on the Limited Value Purchase Order (LVPO).
3. Separate the items on to 2 book trucks:
1 for Serials Only
1 for everything else
**NOTE - It is much easier later on if you sort the items by title or call #.
4. Check the items against the "Job Report" sent by Acme.
A. Serials:
1. Check the spine and match all the information to the Job Report and fill in any missing information on the report (i.e., vol. year, etc.) If there are missing issues, make sure you note it on the report.
2. Verify the call # on the spine with the call# on the first issue inside.
3. Verify the issues inside for the correct volumes and dates.
B. Govt. Publications
1. Check off each item on the Job Report. No need to verify specific info. Govt. Pubs. Unit will do this.
**NOTE** - U.S. Congressional Serial Set has NO call #.
2. Match the slips provided by Govt. Pubs. to each item and place inside the book.
5. Property stamp all items (serials, monographs, and Govt. Pubs.).
6. Delivery of Items
1. Send the Serials to the Circulation Unit.
2. Send the Ref to the Reference Unit.
3. Send the Govt. Pubs. to the Govt. Pubs. Unit.
4. Notify the other URI depts. to come pick up their bound theses.
