A patron who loses a book is permitted to give the library a replacement copy rather than pay the replacement book fee.
Accepting the replacement book
Any staff member at Circulation can accept the replacement copy from the patron.
Staff will ascertain that:
The book is an appropriate replacement for the lost item.
The condition of the book is acceptable.
Adding the replacement book to the catalog
Metadata & Content Management faculty or staff add the replacement book to Alma.
This step requires cataloging expertise, because while the replacement book may be an acceptable copy, it may also be the case that the edition, pagination, etc. differs slightly from the lost copy, and thus a different or edited bibliographic record will be required.
(Acquisitions is not involved in this process, as Acquisitions staff do not perform the cataloging step of the process.)
