After newly acquired items (books, media, etc.) are cataloged and physically processed, it is necessary to indicate in Alma that their physical processing has been completed.
This must be done before transiting items for shelving.
Students performing this job will need the authorization: Receiving Operator Limited - Carothers Library - Tech Services.
-----
Quick and Easy Method
Make sure you are Currently at: Carothers Library - Tech Services - Carothers Library.
Acquisitions => Post-Receiving Processing => Scan in Items
Set Status To: [ignore]
Done: Yes
Scan item barcode: [this will set status to Done for that item]
-----
Alternative Method
Go to Acquisitions => Post-Receiving Processing => Receiving Department Items.
This will show you the items in local department.
Use the Filter button to limit the list to items needing Physical Processing.
Note that you can search for an individual book by using the Find search box.
Check the box next to each item for which Physical Processing has been completed.
Click the Done button at the bottom of the screen.
-----
Physically Deliver the Items
Deliver the items for shelving to the Main Circulation Desk.
Note that all new items emerging from the Alma acquisitions process or from a work order process have to be scanned in at the Main Circulation Desk before being shelved.
Alma => Fulfillment => Checkout/ Checkin => Return Items.
This includes:
New books heading for the stacks
New Reference books
New Curriculum Materials Library items
Serials, monographs, and other items returning from the bindery
New Special Collections items
Exceptions:
Media materials can be delivered directly to the Media Resources Center (because we remove the Technical Services work order from the item record after cataloging since it doesn't go through Physical Processing. See Copy Cataloging Alma Overview.)
Govt. Pubs. materials returning from processing go directly to Government Publications (because the technician scans in the items as if he were at Main Circ Desk)
Gift books (because they were not acquired through the Alma acquisitions process and have no work order on them)
Special Collections materials already in the collection (because they were not acquired through the Alma acquisitions process and have no work order on them)
