Receipt of materials
Materials for Special Collections and University Archives Unit are received as gifts or are ordered through the Unit. All invoices are processed through Acquisitions.
Cataloging materials
All materials that are cataloged for the Special Collections Unit will include a blue paper strip bookmark indicating the collection location and any other notes for the cataloger. Post-2005 acquisitions for Rhode Island Collection and Archives will be assigned a barcode. Pre-2005 publications will be assigned a barcode on an as-needed basis as determined by the Special Collections Unit Librarian.
Labeling
Labels will be printed but not affixed to any items, with the EXCEPTION of post-2005 items in the Rhode Island Collection and the Archives.

Physical processing of materials
All materials will retain their book jackets.
NO property stamps or theft strips are to be used on ANY item.
Place the completed items on the shelf marked "Special Collections Completed" in the processing room.
Circulation
Barcoded items may circulate for a limited time at the discretion of the Special Collections librarian, who will check out the material.
