Adding metadata to items in the University Archives Photos Project on Shared Shelf:
Starting in spring 2014, digitized photographs from the University Archives are being transferred from the Greenstone database to Shared Shelf.
The following metadata fields have already been populated through a metadata batch-upload (see table below for field definitions):

Title
Date
Surrogate Creation Date
Artstor Classification
Repository
Description
Subject
ID Number
Rights
We will be manually cataloging (adding metadata) to the following fields:
Earliest Date
Latest Date
Location
There are two controlled lists linked from this field. One is the Getty locations thesaurus and one is a thesaurus of URI related locations. From the Getty locations, find the closest location you can (e.g. Providence, Narragansett, and Washington County are all otpions) and click "link and append to display". If there is also a URI location associated with the image,enter the number and name from the thesaurus.
Administrative and Academic Units
There is a thesaurus of URI Administrative and Academic Units linked from this field. If applicable, find the correct unit in the list, and enter both the number and term.
Latitude and Longitude
These can both be found on Google Maps. On a map, find the location and click on the pin. Then click on "What's here?"
Collection
Name of the URI Archives collection the work belongs to; collection and record group # (for example, “Records of the Office of Sports Information, RG #100”)
Can usually be inferred from the filename if the name starts with "r", denoting the record group number. If the filename has a three-letter code such as PEO or PLA, skip it for now.
