URI FTE Information

URI FTE

From 2015 to 2016, student FTE jumped by 496, from 15,689 to 16,185. Per Gary Boden 10/27/2016: "The student FTE is going to be about 16,185. That’s a substantial jump from the previous year for two reasons. 1) we now have several hundred students in the online programs (Nursing RN to BS and Dietetics MA) that started last year. 2) the number of high school students in dual/concurrent college enrollment has risen and this year the data was entered earlier than in the past (before the census date rather than after)..."

Notes

The calculation of student FTE is based on 15 credits enrolled for undergraduates and Pharmacy PMD students.  For graduate students FTE is based on 9 credits enrolled.  All credit earning students are included in the calculation.  213 students studying off campus this term earned no credits at the University and are not included in the final number.

April 2014: Veronica Walsh confirms that student FTE is not calculated in the spring, only in the fall.

Faculty FTE is calculated as all full-time plus 1/3 of part-time total. Included are all tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenured faculty who primary duties are instruction, research, and/or public service.

Staff FTE is calculated as all full-time plus 1/3 of part-time total. All non-faculty employees are included except graduate assistants who are counted in the student FTE.

Note that there are different methods of calculating FTE and that the results of such calculations may differ with these numbers.
