Background
Starting in February 2013, the URI Libraries are archiving electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) in DigitalCommons@URI. Students submit their ETDs to ProQuest, and ProQuest returns a copy of each ETD and its metadata to the library. The ProQuest copies automatically flow into a secure server set up by URI's ITS: libraryarchive.uri.edu\proquest. We will transfer dissertations to the Open Access Dissertations series in DigitalCommons@URI, and master's theses to the Open Access Master's Theses series.
Procedure for uploading ETDs to DigitalCommons@URI
Transfer the zipped ETD file from the Proquest server space (libraryarchive.uri.edu\proquest) to the "ETDs from ProQuest" folder on the Public server space (libraryarchive.uri.edu\public).
The zip file contains both the PDF of the thesis/dissertation and a metadata file in XML format. The elements of the XML file are described in this reference guide: Reference Guide for the ETD Metadata XML File.pdf
Open the zip file, and then open both the PDF and the XML file.
In DigitalCommons@URI, go to Open Access Dissertations or Open Access Master's Theses depending on whether it's a dissertation or master's thesis. Click on "Submit Research" to reach the upload form.
