Missing issues
Students
When periodical issues are gathered for binding, volumes with missing issues are put to the side.
Students or staff will fill out a "TB slip" with the the title of the periodical, missing issue and date, call number, date picked up from the CPR, and their initials. A separate slip should be filled out for each missing issue.
Staff
The bindery technician investigates each missing issue and notes on the missing issue slip whether the issue was received (and lost), claimed, or is part of a gift subscription.

This information is also noted on the slip.
The incomplete volumes are placed on a shelf in the Binding Area with the missing issue slips tucked inside.
Searching
Lost issues
We will search for lost issues (issues that originally were received) for one month before sending the volume to the bindery to be bound incomplete.
Students will be sent to search for the missing issue(s) twice during the month, at two-week intervals.
At the first two-week interval, the student will check only the Current Periodical Room (including shelves nearby the missing title).
At the second two-week interval, the student will search the Current Periodical Room (including shelves nearby the missing title), the Serial Stacks, and the book stacks.
Students will note the dates they searched each area on the missing issue slip.
The incomplete volume will then be sent to the bindery to be bound incomplete.
Claimed issues and gift subscriptions
If a missing issue has been claimed or comes as part of a gift subscription, we will wait for up to three months before sending the volume to the bindery to be bound incomplete.
Only one search will be done for claimed issues or gift issues that were never received.
If the claimed issue or missing gift issue arrives, the now-complete volume will be sent to the bindery for binding.
If it is determined that receipt of the issue is unlikely, the incomplete volume will be sent to the bindery to be bound incomplete.
Replacement of missing issues
Occasionally, it is possible to purchase missing issues from a vendor such as USBE.
When funds allow and the title is of importance, this option will be considered.
With the growing availability of online access, replacement of missing issues is not a priority.
Rebinding of incomplete volumes
If a missing issue shows up (or is purchased) after a volume has been bound incomplete, the volume and the missing issue are sent to the bindery to be rebound as a complete volume.
