Faculty members are entitled to request a waiver of the URI Open Access Policy for a particular article. This no-questions-asked waiver will exempt the article from the OA Policy. Generally, authors will seek a waiver when a publisher specifically requires a written statement that the article is not subject to the OA Policy.
As stated in the online instructions, this is the procedure for a faculty member to request a waiver:
"To obtain a no-questions-asked waiver exempting an article from the Policy, please send a request by e-mail to oapolicy@etal.uri.edu. Include:
1) Your name as it appears as author of the article
2) Article title
3) Journal name
You will receive a waiver by email within 24 hours."
When you receive a request:
Find the waiver letter template on the "libraryinfo" server under Document Templates-->Waiver Letter Template.
Fill out the template accordingly and save as a PDF in the folder Open Access Policy-->Waivers. The filename should be YYYY-MM-DD_lastname_waiver.pdf. Make sure to leave the template document unaltered.
Enter the waiver information into the tracking spreadsheet in Google Drive: https://docs.google.com/a/uri.edu/spreadsheets/d/1Abym-cWr5-aycvoXU-1RAQyK4upOjmElb2EIbIppZe0/edit?usp=sharing.
Important: Grad students must check this spreadsheet to make sure they're not requesting articles that have already been waived out.
