What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
It means a lot to me being a first-generation college graduate because I feel that I have achieved something very meaningful. I give all my thanks to my family who have encouraged me all throughout my experience.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
My proudest moment was receiving recognition from the AAASRC Program for my research paper regarding the topic of human rights from the country Eritrea, where my family and I are originally from.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
First and foremost, I would like to thank my mother, who has supported me throughout my years in school and has always given me the best advice. She is someone who has always been there for me. I would also like to thank my brothers and sisters who have also been a huge encouragement to me from the very beginning. Without these precious individuals in my life, I wouldn't be where I am today. I love you all!
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
I would like to thank all my sociology professors for giving me such an enriching experience as well as all the faculty at the International Studies department for their guidance and support!
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
I plan to take a gap year, and hopefully travel. Later on I hope to pursue a masters degree.
