What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
Being a First-Generation College Graduate means that my parents' sacrifices were enough. They gave up their opportunities so that I can have something greater. I have come this far because of their unconditional love and support. This graduation was not just for me but to honor my parents and be the hope for the younger generations.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
My proudest moment from my time at UCSD was graduating a year early with a minor. It was a busy journey, filled with sleepless nights, MANY tears of frustration, a VERY cranky attitude during midterms and finals, and dependence on Yerba Mate's BUT I got through it.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
The people who have been most influential throughout my college journey are my family and friends. They were proud of me when I took on the challenge to leave home to study at UCSD and are proud of me today for the woman I have grown to be. While I was away they never stopped believing in my abilities and when I made mistakes they reminded me that I was greater. I owe it all to my God who has given me the strength to overcome all obstacles and for blessing me with amazing human beings who always have my back.
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
The professors who were most influential throughout my college journey are Marc and Will from the linguistics department. They welcomed me into their office hours not only to answer my homework questions but to discuss my future and offer their wisdom. Their passion to teach and help students succeed is unmatched. I am forever grateful for being a student in their classes (more than once)!
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
I plan on spending the next year completing my prerequisites for an SLP program and getting a job would be great. I also cannot wait to finally read for fun, catch up on all my shows, go on drive thru dates with my family and friends, and volunteer at my church!
