What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
Wow, this question hits home. As a first-generation student this means much more than a degree to me. This is for my family and friends because without them I wouldn't be here today. I have had my struggles throughout college where I felt like I wasn't good enough or smart enough. Being a first-generation college graduate shows all the work my family and I have put in. This is just the beginning. My future just started.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
My proudest moment at UCSD was finding my true passion. I used to be a biology major, but I switched to a cognitive science major. I wasn't sure what I was doing, but I went for it. I realized I have a passion for designing websites and apps. I love designing for people. I am proud that even though I was lost and I was starting from scratch, I never gave up.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
The most influential people in my life are my parents. They inspire me every single day. They are the most hard working and caring individuals. I hope one day I will be just as amazing as them.
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
I would have to say Alison who is my Success Coach. She has been with me through the ENTIRE experience. Every single time I felt helpless she was right there always guiding me to a better direction. I am so blessed to have her in my life.
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
Short term goal: I want to polish my skills and become a UI/UX designer for a company and potentially work for a really well-known company that helps their community. Long term: I want to become a CEO at some point of a tech company. I want to be able to inspire females and minorities that we can be the big boss. I want to be able to provide programs and leadership skills to communities.
