• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?

It means a lot for me because it makes me appreciated, more responsible and proud of myself because I could overcome many obstacles that were on my path.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?

Receiving the 2019-2020 UC San Diego Physical Sciences Dean's Undergraduate Award for Excellence

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

I would like to thank my parents who have been supporting me throughout my journey. They were my strength through my hardest time and I could never reach where I am now without them. They have been providing me with help, love and support whenever I needed. Thanks for all your effort, and I wish I could make you proud today.

I would also thank my journey friend Tracy Tran who has been as a friend and a sister to me. I will never forget how many times you helped me and you were there for me. Your friendship means a lot to me, and we worked so hard to reach this place. Thank you.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

My principal investigator, Daniel Donoghue, my mentor Malalage Nicole Peiris, and my lab manager April Meyer.

Dr. Dan I am thankful because you recognized me, helped me to join your lab, and gave me an opportunity to think more while I am doing my experiments. Thank you for letting me to be a part of your lab members.

My mentor Nicole, she is more than a mentor and I would say she is my friend. Nicole you helped to improve my skills and you guided me day by day throughout my journey. You made be more confident and never give up on things even in the hardest moment. You made me able to take risks to be recognized even though English is not my first language. I would never be thankful for you for what you have done for me. You are a real friend, thank you.

April, your kindness and sponsorship means a lot to me. Your advice and mentorship were helping me to work harder. You never hold any question I had and you answered me and guided me to be successful. Thanks for everything.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?

Working in industry/ for future considering working on my PhD.
