• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?

Being a first generation college student means that I am aware of the sacrifices that were made to get me where I am. Not only did they instill values of compassion and empathy towards everyone around me- they've shown me what it means to work hard and stay determined to reach my goals. Their wish for me live a better life than their own will always be a testimony to how far I go in life, and something I do not plan on taking for granted.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?

One of the most profound and impactful moments that I had at UCSD was having had the opportunity to study abroad. While abroad, not only did I gain an even greater appreciation for my field of study, but I was able to study with some of the most dedicated and intelligent students I had ever met, and I'm lucky to be able to call them my friends.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

To Fair Play, thank you for being the first community I felt a part of at UCSD- with you I learned to never hold back and opened myself to everyone- you were truly my first friends at UCSD. To Found Space, thank you for holding a space for art to grow without limits, you allowed me to feel powerful in the strength and passion of the characters I played. To my family, thank you for helping me persevere through all the challenges I faced both mentally and academically. To my friends I met at UCSD- without your support my time here would be nothing if not uneventful, you all helped me keep studying even when all I wanted was to sleep you all are truly the best and I thank each and every one of you for such an incredible experience

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

To the Earli New Vistas lab staff I thank you for opening my eyes and showing me the possibilities that await a prospective graduate. To my study abroad summer professor and spring COGS 160 professor, thank you for facilitating my academic growth and doing your best to quench my inquisitiveness in class and office hours.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?

Following graduation I hope to continue to strive for higher education, I will take a year to prepare and gather necessary materials to be able to do so.

• ¿Qué significa para ti obtener tu título universitario como graduado de primera generación?

Ser el primero en mi familia en graduarse de la universidad significa que estoy consciente de los sacrificios que se hicieron para llevarme a donde estoy. No solo me inculcaron valores de compasión y empatía hacia todos los que me rodean, sino que me mostraron lo que significa trabajar duro y estar determinado a alcanzar mis metas. Su deseo de que viva una vida mejor que la suya siempre será un testimonio de lo lejos que he llegado en la vida y algo que nunca daré por sentado.

• ¿Cual es el momento de mayor orgullo durante tu tiempo en UCSD?

Uno de los momentos más profundos e impactantes que tuve en UCSD fue haber tenido la oportunidad de estudiar en el extranjero. Mientras estaba en el extranjero, no solo logré apreciar aún más mi campo de estudio, sino que pude estudiar con algunos de los estudiantes más dedicados e inteligentes que he conocido. Tengo la suerte de poder llamarlos mis amigos.

• ¿Quiénes son los miembros de tu familia, amigos o seres queridos que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de tu carrera universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que deseas compartir con ellos?

A Fair Play, gracias por ser la primera comunidad en la que me sentí parte de UCSD, con ustedes aprendí a nunca contenerme y estar abierto a todos. Realmente fueron mis primeros amigos en UCSD. A Found Space, gracias por mantener un espacio en el que el arte crezca sin límites. Me permitieron sentirme poderoso con fuerza y pasión gracias a los personajes que interpreté. A mi familia, gracias por ayudarme a perseverar en todos los desafíos que enfrenté tanto mental como académicamente. A mis amigos que conocí en UCSD, sin su apoyo, el tiempo que he pasado aquí no significaría nada, todos ustedes me ayudaron a seguir estudiando incluso cuando lo único que quería era dormir. Son realmente de lo mejor y les agradezco a todos y cada uno de ustedes esta experiencia tan increíble.

• ¿Quiénes son los miembros de la comunidad de UCSD (profesores, educadores, mentores) que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de tu carrera universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que deseas compartir con ellos?

Al personal del laboratorio Early New Vistas, les agradezco por abrirme los ojos y mostrarme las posibilidades que me esperan como graduado. A mi profesor de verano en el extranjero y a mi profesor de primavera de COGS 160, gracias por facilitar mi crecimiento académico y por hacer todo lo posible por darle lugar a mi curiosidad en clase y en horas de oficina.
