What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
It means walking down the stage with all the people who carried me this far. My loved ones, community members, city, mentors/femtors, and my future students.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
I am most proud of the student protesters with AFSCME 3299 for our workers to have a fair contract with UC. Seeing our students mobilize with the people who keep our college working, inspired and made me proud to be a Triton.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
My loved ones, which encompass friends and their families, have pushed me to succeed in spite of material obstacles. I would like to thank you all for believing in me. This graduation is for you all.
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
My professors in Ethnic Studies have been revolutionary in helping me understand the world through a critical lens. For ES, thank you for challenging everyone who has ever taken any courses through the department. They have changed my life and I am sure that they have changed countless others.
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
I will be attending graduate school for education in UCLA! Afterwards, I plan to be a teacher in LAUSD with hopes of working in the education sector of politics!
