Overall notes for a better work flow:

  • Be creative with your story and video shot- tape is cheep, you'll never get another chance at it!
  • Shoot in SD for capture sake
  • Shoot and mark your best footage with a hand for 2 seconds
  • shoot a lot of coverage- multiple shots with lots of pad and ANGLES so someone else can tell the story too
  • Create signs for each computer and what project is being edited there- create different sequences with names on it

Monday, April 13

    • Cookie making for every kid in the school- 9am- 3rd period at the wedge cafe- Ideas: Natural Sound introduction of the week by the key people making things happen behind the scenes- their hopes for the week, what they are looking forward to, why they are making 2,000 organic cookies... follow to the homerooms with notes read to the classes
    • Waste Management volunteers will be stopping by with a truck out in front of the school to do a demo on recycling during all lunch periods. Come see what it’s all about! Ideas: Lady will be Nat Sound piece on how the compactor really works, catch kids questions- that are good, or terrible, and put together a humor piece, cool things you didn't know about the garbage truck, follow up on Lain's documentary about why we don't do more/what is our school community doing compared to others.
    • Come watch the English teachers participate in the first ever LFHS Poetry Slam being held in the lower Commons during all lunch periods! Ideas: If you can't make comedy here... you have no hope- it's all about the post-game interviews of the teachers and the spectators- near the glass in the front of the commons (Dukats and Clark)
    • Watch student-produced PSAs, documentaries and music videos in the DMT during lunch periods! Foreinsics will be working on getting people there- popcorn and prizes to get there and watch the student work.
    • 1,000 cranes made
    • 7 teams wore green laces (Varsity, JV soccer, boys and girls Lax, volleyball)
    • Each class decorated their own hall with Earth week theme- recycled items

Tuesday, April 14

    • Wear GREEN to school! Ideas: Hunt down and Interview the most creative "green" costumes, create a top 10 most creative costumes, top 10 least Green costumes,
    • Stop by the DMT during a free period to listen to our guest speaker, Bill Kurtis, discuss the importance of organic food and his experiences in ranching sustainably. Ideas:can we bring him into the studio for an interview (about the media profession, advice for kids who love telling stories visually, the future of American Green Economy)

Wednesday, April 15

    • Bring your Nalgene bottle to school and leave your plastic disposable bottle at home! Student Council will be giving out stickers to help decorate your bottle. Ideas: interview student council kids about their work throughout the week, why are nalgenes better? What about the new swiss aluminum bottles?
    • Support the cause and learn to be an environmentally conscious consumer by stopping by our “Ecomarket” during all lunch periods. We’ll be selling everything from organic t-shirts to Nalgenes to canvas bags to seed-based jewelry (all $5). Check it out! Ideas: Interview kids from LF about why they are supporting the Ecomarket, kids selling stuff, is Organic more expensive, will it always be? Does Seed-based jewelry have a bad rap? Mustard Seed- new store in LF will be there a Variety of clubs are selling t-shirts and stainless steal nalgenes, Koepeke selling her soap, Lucy Lambert possibly bumper sticker, Kopeke's class doing recycled fashion show to point people to the DMT
    • Artist Nancy Steinmeyer will be stopping by to run a workshop in the Library and talk to students about her “Cool Globes” exhibition that has been featured in public display and at museums around the country (including the Field Museum). Sign up outside of the library to be a part of the workshop! Each have a message towards global warming- traveling around the country- like the Cows in Chicago- doing a workshop using used paper
    • After school, join Men’s Club and F.O.C.U.S. as they cut invasive buckthorn and clean up the bide path! Ideas: Great easy shoot showing kids out doing stuff, interview kids while they work, nat sound of kids getting stuff done, what is the overall goal of the Bucktorn project?- meeting LBMS halfway- Contact Mrs. Davenport (Kloss)

Thursday, April 16

    • Ride your bike to school - reduce air pollution AND help us donate free bikes to the needy in Zambia! (For every rider, World Bicycle Relief will donate $1 towards buying a bike: 330 riders=3 bikes)! Plus, enjoy hot cocoa and granola bars! Ideas: Great Natural Sound piece of kids riding their bikes in front of the school compared to all of the cars lined up dropping off kids. Interview John Nadau, and his father- head of SRAM (one of the leading bike manufacture- about the bikes for kids in Zambia. Interview kids to find out the longest distance traveled and if they feel like they accomplished something by doing this, do they usually drive?
    • Come see LFHS alumni John Andersen speak during all lunch periods and hear how his passion for saving the environment has rewarded him with some amazing experiences as a part of The Nature Conservancy! Specifically effects on the Great Lakes and our water on the north shore- using your passion to do something great. New company is Green Leaf Advisers
    • Come hear student bands perform in the Commons during all lunch periods. Also performing will be some of your favorite teachers in the first ever LFHS Faculty Talent Show – featuring Mr. Sheeran in a barber shop quartet, Mr. Gress on the harmonica, and MANY more! Ideas: This is too easy to create a humor piece

Friday, April 17

  • Earth Week Celebration culminates in the Organic Food Court, being held during all lunch periods in the main Commons – there will be FREE samples of organic and all-natural foods in the cafeteria including Ben and Jerry’s, Jamba Juice, and MUCH more! Ideas: The event most kids participate in- shoot the faces and interaction between students, interview students to get their pick for the best of the Organic fest.
  • While you enjoy your FREE organic food samplings, listen to the sounds of a percussion ensemble arranged by the LFHS Band along with performances by bands representing the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Fairchild Challenge!
