✍️The Essential Skills Unit, was central to my growth as a trainer and professional. It focused on equipping me with the fundamental abilities that cut across all aspects of teaching, learning, and workplace engagement. These skills included communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, time management, and adaptability. In the context of TVET and hospitality, such skills are indispensable because they directly affect how trainers interact with learners, manage training sessions, and prepare students for real-world demands.
The Essential Skills – Self-Management module provided a crucial foundation for my personal and professional growth as a trainee TVET trainer. It focused on developing self-awareness, discipline, emotional intelligence, and the capacity to manage one’s goals, thoughts, and actions effectively.
This unit emphasized that before one can guide and support others, they must first understand and manage themselves. It helped me explore how personal values, confidence, and vision influence performance and decision-making in both personal and work environments. Through its five topics, I gained valuable insights into vision and mission development, goal management, self-esteem, psychosocial well-being, and the role of skills providers in empowering individuals and communities.
