CITY OF ELGIN, OREGON RESOLUTION 1308 (2014)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL SETTING the Ballot Title Terms of Office for the Elgin City Recorder/Administrator from an Elected Position to a Hired Position
WHEREAS: The City of Elgin City Council goal is to have the City to be run in an efficient, effective and businesslike manner. To achieve this goal the City of Elgin Council desires to change the position of Recorder/Administrator from an elected position to an appointed position by Ballot Title for the Election on May 20, 2014.
WHEREAS: The Elgin City Charter is the governing document for the City of Elgin. This measure would revise Chapter III, section 10 of the current Amended City Charter, adopted in 1987. The City Council approved the Ballot Measure following a public meeting on December 30, 2013 and directed it be submitted to the City voters for consideration in the May 20, 2014 election. The proposed revision would amend the current language to read, “CITY RECORDER/ADMINISTRATOR. The council shall appoint and keep in office a city recorder/administrator who shall hold office subject to the discretion of the council and may be removed by the council with or without cause.”
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The notice of Ballot Title for the May 20, 2014 Election with is attached to this Resolution will be approved and placed on the ballot.
