CITY OF ELGIN, OREGON RESOLUTION 7 (2024)
A RESOLUTION DECLARING APRIL AS BRAIN TUMOR AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS: malignant brain tumors are among the most fatal cancer diagnoses, and research suggests that brain tumors are among the most common tumor types in young people; and
WHEREAS: according to the National Brain Tumor Society, an estimated more than one million Americans, including Elgin residents, are living with a brain tumor and more than 90,000 individuals will receive a primary brain tumor diagnosis in 2024; and
WHEREAS: this month, the National Brain Tumor Society encourages individuals to #GoGrayInMay, in recognition of the unique and immense challenges, coupled with immense hope, faced by individuals diagnosed with a brain tumor and their families and the gray area that falls in between that drives individuals and society toward the missions of conquering and curing the occurrence of brain tumors once and for all; and
WHEREAS: this month, the City of Elgin joins the brain tumor community in increasing public awareness of brain tumors through advocacy, supporting targeted research, and embracing hope for improved treatments and a cure;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: the month of May 2024 is proclaimed Brain Tumor Awareness Month and that the citizens of Elgin are urged to support and comfort community members suffering from this malady.
