“I chose U.S. mainly because it’s the place where I was born and I wanted to go back to see how my life would’ve been if I had stayed.”

Ettore Campriani is Liberty High School’s first Italian exchange student. He will be spending his senior year with us, and I got to talk with him earlier this week. He’s a very fun person to be around and he has a very charismatic personality. I had talked with him before and was very interested in getting to know more.

I learned, to my surprise, that he was born here in America. When I asked him for more information. So wanting to know more I began the interview.

Q: So you were born here? Were your parents Born here as well?

A: “I was born in California, where my parents were working at the time. My family is completely Italian though, they were only there for work reasons.”

Q:What do you like most/least about the U.S. and what do you miss about your home country?

A: “What I liked most is that the people here are so welcoming and full of positive vibes. What I don’t like is how bad the food is. The thing I miss the most are my old friends and family.”

Q: How does your country see the U.S.? What do they think of it? Are they right?

A: “There are alot of stereotypes about the U.S. and I can’t say they are all false. They’re not bad things but just strange things you do. Like you tend to exaggerate things that you do. Like WWE and Monster Trucks.”

Q: Do you feel you’ve been changed by your travels? Do you feel like you appreciate your home more or do you want to see more of the world?

A: “So far I’ve lived a life full of traveling because my family is very open minded and loves to see other cultures so I’m obviously a very open minded and enterprising person thanks to that. I would like to see the world during my life but I’m also very affectionate to Italian culture and I feel that is were I will end up after all of this is done.”

Q: Do you feel that it has made you a more outgoing person?

A: “Yes of course, I’ve never been very outgoing but every time I travel I get more outgoing.”

Q: Alright final question. What is one thing you like about Liberty High School. Any person, teacher, etc.

A: “I love that there is something new happening everyday and everyone looks so happy.”

I’d have to agree with Ettore on the last part. There is always something to do here at Liberty. Hopefully he enjoys his time here in Ohio, and if you see him in the hallways be sure to say hello. You might be surprised how much we all have in common.
