Math and chess may seem unrelated, but they require the same zeal needed for tackling challenges head on. The math and chess club meets on Wednesdays after school until 3:30pm in Mrs. Blystone’s room, room 2029. It started with senior Shunran Xu’s simple goal: to tutor students in math and science. He wanted to help others by providing free tutoring for anyone who needed it. From there, it blossomed into a place for students who enjoy math to try their hand at some of the most difficult and challenging math problems out there. Advisor Mrs. Blystone encourages anyone who loves math to come and check it out. In addition, there are also numerous chess sets for students to stage epic battles of wit. Shunran even brought a Chinese chess set to teach his friends how to play this alternate version of the game.

I don't know about you, but I’ve always felt like Western chess boards were missing a river.

Whether you need tutoring, love math, or want to play chess, this club is the place for you!
